Ecotourism at Lewa and Ol Pejeta
As the year 2008 comes to a close, I guess most of us are thinking of how to give back to the community – charity. Did you know that by merely staying at some camps and lodges in Kenya you would have contributed immensely to conservation efforts? I would like to point out a few places- not in any particular order – that by your residence you will fund Conservancy efforts.
Lewa Wildlife Conservancy:
This conservancy is in Laikipia, Northern Kenya now has 61 black rhinos and 44 white rhinos. Lewa is home to 20% of the world population of endangered Grevy’s zebra. Sitatunga – aquatic antelope are also found at this conservancy.
Lewa Conservancy also hosts the annual Safaricom Marathon. Accommodation at Lewa Consevacy is a lodge; Lewa Safari Camp.
Lewa Safari Camp
Lewa Safari Camp is luxurious, with 12 tents with ensuite bathrooms; 9 twins, 2 triples and 1 double. Each tent has an en-suite bathroom with hot and cold running water and flush toilets. The camp has a dining room and bar. There is also a provision of wireless internet access.
A swimming pool, massage, manicure and pedicure facilities are provided to visitors.
Activities at Lewa Safari Camp include game viewing, bird watching, horse and camel trekking.

The Ol Pejeta Conservancy:
The Ol Pejeta Conservancy is the largest black rhino sanctuary in East Africa, and home to 43 orphaned chimpanzees at the Sweetwaters Chimpanzee Sanctuary. It is also the closest place from Nairobi – Nanyuki – to see the Big Five.
