A unique and artistically appointed lodge that uses natural materials, smooth white walls and water to create a fresh and unusual approach to the bush experience – Shompole will appeal the style conscious, but also to anyone looking for luxury, tranquility and an excellent safari experience.
Shompole Lodge has just six rooms – each looking out over the Great Rift Valley and Lake Natron in the distance. All the rooms are en-suite, and are constructed with naturally occurring white quartz stone and pale thatch. With privacy, comfort and relaxation in mind, each room consists of a ‘cool-pool’ and informal sitting area, a bathroom with a view and a specially designed tent bedroom that includes vast windows and a high-canopied roof. The main lounge and dining area are built under a high thatch roof overlooking Mount Shompole, and are ideally positioned to make the most of both the incredible view and the cool breeze.
The variety of landscape available at Shompole allows for a great range of activities from morning and afternoon game drives, Masai guided bush walks, picnics, sundowner visits to Lake Natron to see the flamingos, night drives, and guided mountain biking. Guests will also have ample time to relax and enjoy the facilities of the lodge itself – including the services of a resident massage therapist offering a range of treatments.
Little Shompole Lodge is located overlooking the stunning expanse of the Great Rift Valley. It consists of only two vast private suites, situated within walking distance of Main Shompole Lodge, but positioned for the utmost consideration and privacy. Each suite has its own separate lounge area, cool pool and sundeck. The rooms are en suite and have privately moulded his and hers basins as well as a cascade shower. The bed is covered with romantic high-canopied netting which can be closed at night against insects. Both rooms share a private mess and stunning horizon pool that overlooks the Lake Natron basin and the volcanic slopes of Northern Tanzania. Guests can enjoy a dedicated team of staff, private guide for safaris as well as a butler service.
Shompole Lodge has been designed for guests to relax in a beautiful environment however for those wanting to enjoy various activities there are plenty on offer such as, game drives or night drives, often combined with sundowners in the bush. Walks can be done on the private conservancy. Here, you will learn about the smaller animals and plant life as a guide accompanies you. Trips to the local village can be organised as can morning or afternoon trips to Lake Natron. Finally, for the more active, there are mountain bikes as well as inflatable canoes to enjoy a trip down the river.
Shompole is a short -30 minutes chartered flight from Nairobi, or you can take a 120 km breath-taking drive from the heights of Nairobi down the escarpment and across the floor of the Great Rift Valley to Shompole in the Masai Mara ecosystem near the Tanzania border.
