Banana House
Banana House is a cool, elegant private guesthouse and wellness centre in Shela Village, Lamu offering also yoga classes and massages. It is spacious and has great views on the sea, the dunes and the village.
Location
Banana House is located in a quiet corner of Shela Island, close to the waterfront. Shela village is a maze of narrow sandy lanes where the only oncoming traffic you are likely to meet is a donkey and with bicycles almost unheard of. There are three or four cars on the island.
Accommodation
At Banana House you can rent a room, a floor, or the whole house. It has managed to combine the convenience of a hotel with the privacy and personal space afforded by a home rental.
The ground contains 3 bedrooms (which can be interconnected) and 2 bathrooms. It has a large veranda, great daybed and access to the garden; ideal for a family with children.
The 1st floorhas 3 self contained double bedrooms. The large veranda and sitting and dining areas are covered by a makuti roof providing refreshing shade in the daytime and a place to sit in the evening and gaze at the stars.
The Banana House Rooftop has become a beloved Penthouse of almost 200 square meters containing a large bedroom, bathroom, separate sitting and dining areas plus a sun or star gazing baraza (Swahili bench) with sea views across the tree tops: a private and favorite place to stay in Shela.
